I’ve been reading Heroine Shikkaku and Orange lately in anticipation of Yamazaki being in both of them and because they’re both being released this year and I thought I’d share my views on what I’ve read so far and how I think Yamazaki will do…

Fistly Heroine Shikkaku – WHICH btw seemingly there are currently cut outs for PRing this movie in most cinemas. So guess what I’m doing on my day off on Tuesday xD

So far I’ve read the first two volumes of this! The character development is very good and it has some seriously funny moments xD I am liking Hatori very much and Rita is still very much a mystery but hopefully we can see more of his side soon, and Kousuke definitely has potential to win over my heart xD

General Plot of the Story:

We follow our main girl, Hatori who is in love with her childhood friend, Rita(Yamazaki) but he decides to date a (what she thinks is a) plain girl and she can’t understand why she isn’t the heroine of his love story because Hatori believes it is her destiny to always be with him and thinks in natural that they would go out. But through her own fault, she never confesses and he begins to date a girl called Adachi. Until she meets someone hotter, Kousuke, who pursues her, and slowly her heart begins to change, but is Rita only just realising his feelings for her now that she is interested in someone that isn’t him? And is Rita’s girlfriend really just as innocent and as nice as she appears?

Manga Spoilers (for first two volumes!):

I really enjoyed reading the first two volumes of this. It has very funny moments and the second volume definitely had some heart racing moments that I felt a little hot during my train ride one time and had to become aware of who was around me in case a kid might see xD My favourite scenes in the manga so far are when A. Hatori is crying to her friend over Rita because it’s done SO comically xD B. the way Rita talks to Hatori; it’s so straightforwardly that it’s amuse xD BUT one thing that did confuse me, probably because of my Japanese level, is that at one point in the first manga, Adachi (Rita’s girlfriend) has a private moment to herself and is really mean towards Hatori and saying that she’s stealing Rita and wants to see Hatori squirm and stuff BUT there’s be nothing evidential that Adachi has a none-nice motive for dating Rita since! But still I can’t shake off the feeling that Adachi isn’t all the Rita and Hatori and everyone sees on the surface… I hope I’m correct…

From Manga to Film – My Thoughts:

Firstly the trailer *watches 1:34 minute trailer*

Straight away the way Yamazaki is playing Rita is different from the manga. For a start, he’s smiling at Hatori in this trailer! In the manga he’s very moody and doesn’t show much emotion even towards his childhood, pretty much best, friend. Mirei seems to be playing Hatori exactly as she is in the movie so that's great!! =] Also, Rita appears to be more aware of how much he's hurting Hatori in the film too which is good! Holy shit he kissed her at the end of the trailer then!!! Hmmm… if we follow the shoujo-norm then the festival scene must be towards the end of the film when Hatori has already fallen for Kousuke and Rita has only just realise his feelings for her so he kisses her and she’s like ‘I don’t like you anymore, your loss’ kind thing, maybe?!?! Omg maybe I should read more of the manga before it comes out!! It’s looking like a very promising movie though =]

I think Mirei will do just fine as Hatori, she definitely fits the spoilt brat, slightly silly girl look. She can be a hit or miss with her acting but I think she’ll be a hit in this!

Yamazaki as Rita… clearly Rita is your stereotypical male role in a Shoujo manga. He’s very tsundere and very blunt towards his childhood friend Hatori. I think this is an easy role for Yamazaki – but I can only base that on the first two volumes action which I assume will only take up about 10 minutes of the film o_O But yes I feel this is a role Yamazaki has done before and will pull of easily <3

O man, personally I think they did BAD on the choice for Kousuke. Kousuke supposed to be this blonde , drop dead gorgeous sports man and the guy they’ve picked is, in my opinion, average looking and is nowhere near on the same level as Yamazaki’s looks! So kinda defeats the point as to why Hatori first starts to fall for him =/ and also makes him no match to Rita at all! Hmmm maybe they should’ve cast someone like… *tries to think of someone hotter or on the same level as Yamazaki… this is hard!*

Matsuzaka Tori - AND they've already worked together before xD

Masaki Suda - he's tall and fits the sport type and he's also worked with Yamazaki before xD

Ryusei Ryo - I think he fits the role the best! AND he's in Orange with Yamazaki xD somehow I managed to pick people he already knows!! haha

And because I'm still on a D-BOYS high from last Sunday:

Hashimoto Taito - he's very sport (he's a dancer) and his hair is currently blonde so fits the character and he's handsome <3

Btw, the actress playing Adachi – I thought she was 30-odd from the look of her!! She’s only 24! O_o Did anyone else think she looked A. WAY older than a HS student and B. WAY older than 24?!

Now onto Orange!! OMG this manga guys! Holy crap! It’s SO beautiful! I’ve only read one volume of it so far but holy crap, I was trying SO HARD not to cry on the train and during work when I was reading it! xD Seriously, if it’s in English or your native language – READ IT!

General Plot:

Naho receives a letter one day from her future self telling her that she has many regrets which all began during her second year at high school and wishes to change them, but gives her past self the option. So first thing: ‘Set alarm clock the night before – so I’m not late’ Naho oversleeps as was written in the letter. Over the next few days she learns that what the letter says is true and she begins to slowly set the regrets straight. But there is one huge this that her future self really wants to change: the new transfer students life; Naruse Kakeru’s life.

Manga – Spoilers for Volume 1:

THIS. MANGA. GUYS!!! Holy shit!! I am loving the friendship between all the characters and Naho feels very real! She definitely got a personality that fits a 16 year old girl, especially when it comes to confessing. But OMG!!! Okay, so you wanna know why I was nearly crying?! Okay so the shocker regret is: Kakeru is dead in the future! And Naho feels she can change his fate even though it was a traffic accident. And the other shocker is! She’s married to one of her friends from HS in the future, so that’s also like ‘how the hell did that happen?!’ but yeah I was crying cos the way everything is explained is written so beautifully. I NEVER cry at books but damn this manga cut me right in the heart straight away!

From Manga to Film:

*Watches 32 second teaser*

So no Yamazaki in it =[ and no real plot. Also I've not watched Mare so I can't say whether the MC actress will fit the part or not. But Naho is very kind and very quite so.. does she fit it? I am asking those that have seen Mare xD
Now that I know what the characters are like I just wanna talk about the casting:

I am VERY excited to see Yamazaki as Kakeru. He feels both familiar and refreshing as a character and I am excited to see Yamazaki play a character with such emotions and with such a past as Kakeru has! I think he’ll do amazing! Definitely a more complicated and more developed character than what he’ll play is Heroine Shikkaku so that’s exciting to wait and see!

I also think Dori is the perfect actor to play Saku. Saku is very geeky and very reserved but is a huge fan of bad jokes so I think this will be a great role for Dori!

I can’t comment on any of the girls! =/ they’re probs all models so their roles will be plain and simple… but I don’t really care about the girls acting xD

Ryusei Ryo as Suwa is… interesting… I definitely did not expect Ryusei to play hm. Ryusei feels like he has so much more maturity about him than Suwa so I’m looking forward to seeing how he becomes Suwa. I expected someone more… upbeat and sporty to play him… perhaps… Miura Shohei-like actor. Someone who usually plays the ‘second lead’ and has fluffy hair xD I dunno how to explain it! But if you’ve seen Hana Kimi then Suwa feels very Nakatsu-like. Or in Ikemen Desu Ne, he feels very much like the character Fujigaya played xD

---

And that's all I have for now! So do post lots in the comments below about what you think about these two movies:

Are you excited? What do you think about the casting? Have you read the manga? Do you want to? Everything!
