The next two weeks I'm working nights so I get the mornings to catch up on stuff! Which is both a good thing and a bad thing. Good because I always wake up early in Japan so can get lots of stuff dnone before work. Bad because I ALWAYS wake up early in Japan meaning I'll probs be shattered by the time I finish work at 9pm tonight which means I'll probs miss BUSAIKU -__- but I will carry lots of suger to help me out! Onto the review!
Of course be aware of SPOILERS!
I saw this on opening day ^_^ Before I go into my review, I will warn you: My expectations for this film were very, very low. Also I cannot stand Miura Haruma. But let us get into the details!
The Positives:
The CGI was way beyond amazing for Japanese standard! You can tell the budget was HUGE on this! You could still tell they weren't real but they did a great job of blending real actors with the CGI to make them look like the Kyojins xD
Replacement Levi - he isn't the Levi we want but he's close and I like his twisted mind xD and he's hot! Just putting that out there! He is hot! He does REAL good playing messed up/bad guys!!
The ending song is amazing <3 like omg Sekai no Owari can do NO wrong with their music seriously!! I think it was the only part of the soundtrack that actually fit the film's atmosphere. Seriously listen to this!!!!
The blood and violence - holy crap the sound of bones crushing and barrels of blood everywhere!!! <3 a couple of times I had to think if I felt sick or not! So that was awesome <3
The overall changes - while I still much, much, much prefer the original story, I quite liked the changes they made in this and (besides the romances) found no change that would infuriate me.
Updated technology was another thing I like. There were tanks in this and everything! Which I thought made complete sense! If the 3D gear is a thing then why aren't cars, bombs etc. So I liked the extra tech they had in this. Also helps explain the second installment story which they showed at the end of the film as a preview.
The Negatives:
Slow - this film could've easily cut out the first 20 minutes or so. The film makers know all we wanna see is the giants so why you spending AGES setting everything up?! I highly doubt people who've never seen or know anything about the anime are gunna watch this so just cut to the chase and give us the good stuff!
Too short - it felt like we were only JUST getting development and BAM credits - ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? GIVE ME MORE!!! Could've EASILY gotten 30 minutes or more into that movie! Honestly, it ended just after the very first time Eren becomes a Kyojin. Are you kidding me?! Could've easily fit in ALL the confindment scenes and interogation scenes of him! It ideally should've ended with the kyojins coming again and them saying 'Eren will you fight as a kyojin for us? With us?' and like ending it with them all watching the kyojins coming their way! Holy shit... that would've been a great ending!!! Maybe I should've filmed this film!!!! Whatcha think?
The added/new/extra romance couples - there's 4 'couples' and romances in this that aren't in the anime and by god I hated everyone of them bar one. They did Eren x Mikasa who are both orphans from the beginning and have been dating for ages, there's Armin x the girl from the anime who literally lives for food, it was cute but UGH please no relationship for Armin/Hongo please!, there's a to-be-married couple who have NO function in the story at all and then the one I did like was Mikasa x Replacement-Levi <3 it was so twisted and that relationship actually makes sense as to how it comes about and such!
Shake camera during fighting scenes - please can film directors stop doing this?! -_____-
Miura Haruma - he can't act and was especially cringe worthy to watch when he was doing his screaming scenes -_- just stop. Please. Don't jump off a cliff but just give up as an actor please.
