Grasshopper Review

Watched this on Wednesday!! =] I really enjoyed it but there were some moments that disappointed me.

Quickie Review: 7.5/10

There was a lot of action - great action scenes! - , great connections between characters towards the end. Great cinematograhy and music also! Yamada was by far the superior actor. I wanted so hard to love this film but at least two major negatvies brought it down to a 7.5. For example: Toma's performance and character was disappointing.

I am SUPER interested on how they did the opening scene: Shibuya on Halloween night and there's an attack - A. how did that get filmed without a bunch of people waving at the camera, B. how did that get filmed without anyone seriously pushing into Ikuta's shots and stuff and C. How the hell did they manage to film ON Halloween Night (one of THE busiest nights in Shibuya every year year) IN Shibuya (a place that is ALWAYS full) and yet managed to film or at least make it seem like an actual car accident was occuring on one of THE busiest cross roads in Japan!? Like, I NEED TO KNOW THIS SECRET!!!
I like how all the characters met towards the end or at least, their stories came to join to the same place and person at the end.
Yamada man... omg Yamada STOLE this movie! His character and acting was just perfect!!! It was amazing seeing him play such a dark, blood-thirsty character! The two fight scenes he were in was amazing!!! His opening seen is amazing too! The fact his puts on a rain coat before slicing peoples throats open but still gets blood all over himself xD and how fast his movements are when he fights. AND how when there's that accident on the road next to him, he just stays stood, unflinched, looking at the mangled body! It was genius! AND OMG that scene when he kicks that champagne bottle across the room! You can tell Yamada didn't mean to do it so hard but (being professional) carried on with the scene, it was so good!! His character also had the right amount of attitude as well which I enjoyed.
The music was really great too and I liked the overall look at the film *director check* Takimoto Tomoyuki... Ahhh he did Ikigami and Brain Man! Two other films I really enjoyed!! Both also very dark films that discuss a lot about death and fighting and such!

I wanted to give this at least an 8 out of 10 but there were too many things that took away my entertainment. BUT, I think this ultimately would've been better as a drama rather than a movie (and here we go into the negatives). I felt there wasn't enough backstory nor development with the characters. I would've love to have scene Semi, Kujira and even Suzuki get more development and be given time to show the audience more about their past and present self. I think a 12 episode drama would've really allowed more action, individual character backstory/development and a much greater and more understandable plot.
I wasn't sure about the time between the initial attack and when Suzuki starts 'getting revenge'. Like had it been the very next day or a year or what? If that part popped up in the film then it was obvious enough! They clearly pointed out 'Day One' 'Day Two' 'One Year Later' in the film but we weren't told how long it'd been since the initial accident in the beginning of the film, so I was kinda like 'Toma's character has even had time to mourn' and stuff. but yeah....
Next is Ikuta Toma - his character and role was so boring and so disappointing. He was the weakest (in terms of both character and acting) out of the three main actors in this movie which is obviously a disappointment to me because, unlike all other Johnny's, he's solely an actor and he tends to do really great and tends to pick some great roles but this was just meh. Maybe it was because his character was supposed to be a rookie and had no idea what was going on or what to do but like his character was pathetic to the extent I ended up laughing at how pathetic and uninteresting his character was towards the end =/ Oopsies... Yeah... Yamada outshined Toma by A LOT in this film =/ maybe it's my character preference also but whatever.
And the actress Nanao -___- cannot stand her. She plays the same character in everything: the bitch. In Grasshopper, she's a screamy bitch, in Siren she's a coniving bitch, in Last Cinderella she's a bitch, in First Class she's a jealous bitch - she BORES me and she plays the SAME character over and over and tbh, it always looks like she's not even trying - I am seriously convinced she's just playing herself. She has a punchable face also. She has no acting skills, always plays the same character and BORES me.

Final negative is, there is a girl who gets kidnapped at the beginning of the film just because she's super unlucky, but 30 minutes towards the end, it turns out she's this badass assassin who got caught on purpose and it's like 'we saw you for all of 5 minutes at the beginning of the movie!! If you were gunna be such a big role, you should've been shown more!!!' like OMG!!!! There's at least two of the main characters who are out to kill the main badguy in this film and literally, right at the end, she comes in and kills the bad guy the quickest way possible and it's like 'you've just made THE most anti-climactic ending ever!!! We've been with these main characters for almost 2 hours, SEEN that they wanna get revenge SO badly and YOU bitch, who has only had about 5 minutes air time, comes up and kills the bad guy in 5 seconds flat. THAT'S THE MOST FRUSTRATING, ANTI-CLIMACTIC, UNSATIFACTORY ENDING EVER!!! RAGE!!!!!!!' omg it just ruined it!

They also showed the trailer for Pink and Grey on Wednesday and it definitely wasn't the type of story I was expecting but it look really good! So I need my momma to send me my book asap so I can read it!! xD

Have you seen this? Will you watch it?
